Actinomycin D (Dactinomycin) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C62H86N12O16. It is a bright red crystalline powder, insoluble in petroleum ether, slightly soluble in water, soluble in methanol, ethanol and ethyl acetate, easily soluble in benzene, chloroform and acetone.
Actinomycin D can inhibit the synthesis of RNA and interfere with the transcription process of cells by acting on mRNA. After intravenous injection, it quickly disappears from the blood, within 24 hours, 12% to 25% is excreted by the kidney, and 50% to 90% is excreted by the bile.
