    BHA can work with the peroxides produced during the oxidation of fats and oils, so that the chain reaction of automatic oxidation of fats and oils is cut off, preventing the fats and oils from continuing to oxidize.

    When BHA is mixed with other antioxidants and synergists such as citric acid, its antioxidant effect is more significant. In addition to the antioxidant effect, BHA also has strong antibacterial power and anti-mold effect.

    (1) Preparation of intermediate p-hydroxyanisole.

    It can be produced by alkylation of hydroquinone as raw material, and the synthesis method of p-aminoanisole as raw material is given here: p-aminoanisole and sodium nitrite (molar ratio of 1:1:15) were added into the reactor, and diazotization was carried out in the presence of sulfuric acid. After the reaction is completed, keep warm and filter, and slowly add the filtrate into the hot water for hydrolysis.

    The p-hydroxyanisole is immediately distilled out with steam, condensed and extracted with the organic solvent benzene. After concentration and distillation to remove the solvent, the product can be obtained, the average yield of 84.7%.

    (2) BHA was synthesized. The solvent benzene, tert-butanol and p-hydroxyanisole were added to the reactor in turn and heated to dissolve, and then added the catalyst phosphoric acid or sulfuric acid, and the reaction was refluxed at 80 ℃ with strong stirring.

    After the reaction was completed, the material was discharged and left to stratify. The organic phase was washed successively with 10% sodium hydroxide solution and water to neutral. Remove the solvent by distillation, and then recrystallized by ethanol to get the finished product.
