Liensinine is a dibenzylisoquinoline monoether alkaloid. It is a natural dimeric alkaloid with limited distribution in the plant kingdom, diverse structural types, and wide physiological activity. The benzyl carbon in the alkaloid molecule is at the β position of the nitrogen atom and is easily oxidized by oxidants (such as potassium permanganate) or photooxidized in the presence of O2 or under ultraviolet light.
