Azelaic acid is a dermatological drug used to treat acne, melasma and skin melanin deposits. Azelaic Acid of Usage and Synthesis.
For melanosis, melasma, malignant nevus, melanoma, sunburn and so on. It has good effect on acne vulgaris, rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis.
Uses of Azelaic Acid.
Azelaic acid can be used as a reagent, but also for organic synthesis, such as can be used as a plasticizer dioctyl azelaic acid and spices, lubricants, oils, polyamide resin raw material. In addition, azelaic acid is widely used in medicine and cosmetics.
Most azelaic acid is used in the production of dioctyl azelate (DOZ) plasticizers, while others are used as raw materials for fragrances, lubricants, oils, and polyamide resins. DOZ is used as a cold-resistant plasticizing material for cables, films, artificial leather, etc., with low volatility and good aging resistance. DOZ can also be used as a softener for synthetic rubber. The azelaic acid used in the production of DOZ in Japan accounts for about 70% of the total consumption of azelaic acid. Azelanedinitrile can be prepared by dehydration of azelaic acid with ammonia.
Pharmacological action of Azelaic Acid.
Azelaic acid can inhibit or kill anaerobic and aerobic bacteria in the skin. In vivo experiments showed that local application of azelaic acid cream for 2 to 3 months can significantly reduce the number of skin bacteria and propionibacterium bacteria in hair follicles, indicating that this product has direct antibacterial effect. In addition, local application of azelaic acid can reduce the composition of free fatty acids and lipids on the skin surface. The anti-keratosis effect on the skin of normal people or acne patients is mainly due to the reduction of filamentous keratin synthesis, thus reducing the hair follicle hyperkeratosis. Azelaic acid can selectively act on abnormal melanocytes and inhibit their overactivity. Therefore, the local application of azelaic acid for a longer period of time can reduce the production of skin melanin in patients with age spots. However, this product has no depigmentation effect on normal skin pigment. Azelaic acid also has anti-proliferation and anti-cytotoxic effects, mainly through the destruction of mitochondrial respiration pathway and cellular DNA synthesis.
Product method of Bulk Azelaic Acid Powder.
It is obtained by oxidation of oleic acid by nitric acid or ozone. It can also be cracked with industrial castor as raw material. Azelaic acid can be prepared by condensation of 1, 5-dibromopentane with acetonitrile or by ketodimethyl azelaic acid from monomethyl glutarate monomethyl cyanide.
