Piperine is a broad-spectrum anticonvulsant, with good antagonistic effects on experimental electroconvulsions in mice, and with varying degrees of antagonistic effects on convulsive seizures and audiogenic seizures induced by pentylenetetrazol, indohexadine toxin, strychnine, and intracerebroventricular injections of cylinder arrow toxin and glutamate. Clinical trials have also shown efficacy in certain types of epilepsy.
