    Isosafrole was isomerised under reduced pressure to isosafrole, which was oxidised to produce piperonal. Piperonyl aldehyde and nitromethane condensation to β-nitro-3,4-dioxomethylidene styrene, further reduction of piperonyl ethylamine [1484-85-1]: piperonyl ethylamine and o-veratraldehyde condensation, and then catalytic hydrogenation, salting, cycling, alkalisation to berberine. Continue to salt with hydrochloric acid to get berberine.

    1. Condensation, catalytic hydrogenation, salt will be anhydrous ethanol and o-veratraldehyde mixed, under the stirring and then add piperylene, slightly heated to make all dissolved.
