Uses and functions of Neohesperidin.
New Hesperidin is a new type of natural nutritive sweetener extracted from Hovenia Citriodora, and the new Hesperidin dihydrochalcone obtained by hydrogenation is 1,500-2,000 times sweeter than sucrose, which is widely used as a sweetener (flavour enhancer) in fruit juices, fruit wines, beverages, confectionery, and pharmaceutical preparations, and it is especially suitable for diabetic patients as food.
In vitro studies of Neohesperidin.
Neohesperidin, a flavonoid glycoside found in citrus fruits, is an antioxidant. Neohesperidin acted as an antioxidant in the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryldydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay with an IC50 of 22.31 μg/ml. neohesperidin (50 mg/kg) significantly inhibited HCl/ethanol-induced gastric damage and increased mucus content. In pylorus ligated rats, neohesperidin (50 mg/kg) significantly reduced the amount of gastric secretion and gastric acid production, and elevated the pH value. In addition, neohesperidin inhibited the growth of Caco-2, CEM/ADR5000, and CCRF-CEM leukaemia cells with IC50 values of 0.17, 0.17, and 0.12 mM, respectively.
