The molecular structure of BCA is similar to that of animal estrogens, and it can competitively bind with estrogen receptors to exert estrogen-like effects. BCA is an important phytoestrogen, which has various beneficial effects on human and animal health, and it can be used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, menopausal syndromes and other diseases. Besides, it also has various pharmacological effects such as anti-tumour, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, hypoglycemic, antioxidant and neuroprotective.

Preparation of Biochanin A.

Step 1 Preparation of intermediates

Biochanin A was reported to inhibit protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) of the epidermal growth factor receptor with an IC50 value of 91.5 μM. BiochaninA inhibited the hydrolysis of 0.5 μM cannabinoids by fatty acid amides (FAAH) in vivo in mice, rats, and humans, with IC50 values of 1.8, 1.4, and 2.4 μM, respectively. BiochaninA inhibited the growth of serum- and EGF-stimulated LNCaP and DU-145 cells (IC50 values ranged from 8.0 to 27 μg/ml for serum and 4.3 to 15 μg/ml for EGF), but had no significant effect on the autophosphorylation of the EGF receptor tyrosine
