1. Hypoglycaemic effect
In normal rabbits, 200 mg/kg of aqueous or alcoholic extract of Platycodon grandiflorum can reduce blood glucose, similar to that of toluene sulfobutylurea. It also has hypoglycaemic effect on experimental tetrachloropyrimidine diabetic rabbits, and can inhibit the rise of food glucose, and the reduction of hepatic glucose is also seen to be restored after using the drug, in which the effect of alcoholic extracts is stronger than that of aqueous extracts.
2、Antibacterial effect
The aqueous extract and decoction of Platycodon grandiflorum have inhibitory effect on flocculent epidermolysis bullosa in vitro by 1:10 in vitro using test tube dilution method. With the decoction of 4.50% plate small ditch method, it has inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, S. typhi, Fusarium dysentery bacillus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli.
