Uses and functions of Honokiol.

Pharmacological Effect of Honokiol.

1.Antipathogenic microorganisms effect of Houpu Decoction on staphylococcus, haemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus, whooping cough bacillus and other gram-positive bacteria, as well as anthrax bacillus, dysentery bacillus, typhoid fever bacillus, paratyphoid fever bacillus, Vibrio cholerae, E. coli, Aspergillus spp. At 15% concentration, it has inhibitory effect on the skin fungi of experimental animals, such as small bacillus, concentric trichophyton, red trichophyton, American trichophyton and so on.

Decoction of Hauppauge had certain ameliorating effects on substantial pathological damage in experimental viral hepatitis in mice.

The three extracted constituents of Magnolia officinalis, Magnolol, and Magnolol and the monoterpene Magnolol are antagonists of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced activation of Epstein-Barr virus early antigen (EBv-EA).4,5,6,7,8 The methanolic extract of Magnolia officinalis and its hydroxymethyl derivatives showed significant antitumour effects in mice.

The methanol extract and thujaplicin of A. thujaplica showed significant inhibitory effects on mouse skin tumours induced by in vivo phase II carcinogenicity experiments.
